It is normal if you find it needs 11~15 times (sometimes more than 15 times) to start F4&F5 outboards. We would like to clarify the principle to you as below: When you start the new outboards, there is no fuel in the fuel pump, carburetor and fuel manifold. So the fuel pump, carburetor and fuel manifold must be filled with fuel. Because the postion of carburetor is higher than that of fuel pump, so we have to pump the fuel from the fuel pump to the carburretor bit by bit by pulling the starter rope.

You could manual pump fuel by using the external fuel tank instead of the internal one to avoid such phenomenon.

Why we have to pull many times to start the F4/F5 outboards?
